Anyone who has spent time in the military is familiar with chem lights; 12-hour military grade light sticks. Don't be fooled by the dollar store variety (glow sticks). Military grade chemical sticks can be seen a mile away.

Holding and shaking a glow stick is not a very effective way to signal for help. The best way is to tie a string (about 2-3 feet long) to the glow stick and swing it (like a buzz saw) in front or over you depending on the location of the target you are trying to attract.
